Do You Need an Appointment for a Walk-In Cannabis Dispensary?

In nearly every legal market the answer is no: a walk-in cannabis dispensary is built for customers who show up without a reservation. Most retail shops accept walk-ins during all open hours and reserve appointment slots only for consultations, medical counters, or unusually busy days. The exceptions are narrow, and a quick call or a glance at the shop's menu page confirms them in seconds.

Do you need an appointment for a walk-in cannabis dispensary?

No. A walk-in dispensary is designed for same-day visits, and shoppers are generally served first come, first served. Appointments are optional at most stores and are most useful on opening weekends, holidays, or when you want uninterrupted time with a budtender to talk through products.

When might booking a time slot still help?

A reservation can shorten your wait if you are a first-time visitor who wants a longer education session, a medical patient who needs paperwork reviewed, or someone with accessibility needs. Some medical-only dispensaries in stricter states do require a scheduled consultation before your first purchase, so check the shop's own policy rather than assuming.

• Printed and digital menus you can browse on arrival or beforehand

What to expect at the counter

Plan on bringing a valid driver's license, state ID, or passport; federal ID alone is not accepted for adult-use sales, and some states also require proof of residency. Expect a short queue at the door, a check-in with a receptionist, and a five to twenty minute wait at peak hours. Bring cash as a backup, since card processing rules differ by state, and ask about sealed-package rules before opening anything in the car.

Order-ahead pickup and in-store purchases follow the shop's posted policy: unopened, sealed items can usually be exchanged within a short window with a receipt, while opened cannabis products cannot be returned under state law. Cannabis is not shipped across state lines, but CBD topicals and similar hemp items are commonly available for local pickup or standard delivery where permitted, so confirm the options when you arrive.
