Cannabis Ph Adjustment
Discover the essentials of cannabis pH adjustment for optimal CBD extraction and usage.

Cannabis pH measurement is the practice of testing how acidic or alkaline the water, nutrient solution, or growing medium around a cannabis plant is. Most growers aim for roughly 6.0 to 6.5 in soil and 5.5 to 6.0 in hydroponic or coco setups, because that narrow band keeps essential nutrients dissolved and reachable by the roots. Checking pH regularly is one of the simplest ways to head off yellowing leaves, stalled growth, and weaker CBD production.
It is the process of reading the 0 to 14 pH scale for whatever liquid or medium your plants feed from. Below 7 is acidic, above 7 is alkaline, and cannabis sits happiest on the slightly acidic side of the line.
Digital pens use a glass bulb electrode that produces a tiny voltage in response to hydrogen ions, and the meter converts that signal into a number on an LCD. Analog drop kits use a reagent that shifts color, which is inexpensive but relies on your eye. Whichever you choose, keep the probe in potassium chloride storage solution rather than tap water, rinse it between samples, and recalibrate about once a month. For soil, a slurry test using one part soil to two parts distilled water gives a far more trustworthy reading than a pointed metal probe pushed straight into a pot.
When pH drifts out of range, nutrients lock out even if they are sitting right there in the medium. That shows up as spotted leaves, slow flowering, and lower cannabinoid content in the finished flower.
Test every time you mix a nutrient batch, then re-check the runoff weekly. In hydro, daily checks are normal because reservoir pH can swing within hours.
